“Kelly and Hannah are technical, practical, organized, and flexible in their approach to teaching sewing. As our primary instructors at Stitch Lounge they consistently demonstrated their devotion to empowering their students and having a fun time doing it! These ladies live, play, and work the San Francisco crafty life and we are excited to know that they will continue to share their knowledge with our community.”

"From the beginning, Kelly was an amazing mix of encouraging but also direct in setting expectations based on the time and steps it would take to get done what I wanted. That made me trust her instantly! To make a long story short, we had to switch to Zoom lessons once COVID made it unsafe to meet in-person regularly in March 2020. I was skeptical, but Kelly was so good at helping us remain focused remotely and staying plenty productive with the right phone and laptop combination so that she could see exactly what I was drawing or cutting. I highly recommend her for Zoom lessons, because you absolutely get what you pay for -- her technical expertise, unfailing empathy, and expert eye on your project from the comfort of home. We finished countless sleeve, bodice, and skirt projects this way.

I should also add that when things don't fit your body as you want them to - Kelly is such a supportive listener and advocate for YOUR shape without ever critiquing you in any way that feels personal or hurtful. She's so good at fitting and advising for any body type - and that's part of what makes our lessons so empowering. I feel like the best possible ME when we're done refining a pattern.

In May 2021, we were able to return to masked, in-person lessons and I've booked those twice a week to make even more progress on my pattern goals. I can't say enough about Kelly's genius in turning 2D prints into 3D garments that fit amazingly.

I feel so lucky and thankful that we met when we did. Our work together truly helped me stay focused on something positive and creative during an especially rough time for everybody - 2020! Kelly is the absolute best at her craft -- and such a gifted teacher. You'll learn a lifelong skill sending her a note for classes. :)"

"Kelly is an amazing instructor. I knew a little bit about machine sewing before this but was always intimidated. However, she absolutely goes over everything you need to know about it. I bought the works package and it was easy to schedule. However, make sure to initiate the email process through the website or send her one, I was having some issues not receiving emails before that. My classes are done but I may schedule a private session in order to learn more about clothes alterations specifically."

"Kelly was an absolute pleasure to work with. I took her three day quilting class. She is an excellent and patient teacher. She went above and beyond and was extremely generous with her time - we ran late every class and she never made us feel guilty about it! She was very encouraging and never made me feel dumb for asking a silly question. I am very pleased with my quilt (will try to post a picture at some point - it's not completely finished) and hope to make more. Kelly is passionate and skilled - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her for any of your sewing needs. The class was very fairly priced and I'm so happy I went. I will likely take another class/private lesson in the future. I also enjoyed the music she played!"

"Kelly is the best teacher of all time. In only two hours she had me understand my new sewing machine by showing me how to oil and clean it, take it apart and put it back together again, and thread the bobbin. In addition she explained the mechanism behind the tension and even wrote guidelines out for me. She took me from explaining the machine, measuring and pattern making, and absolutely everything I need to start on my project. I plan to take another session with Kelly when I start on a new project, now that I am not afraid of my sewing machine any longer. I can't recommend her any higher!!!"

"I got it in my brain that I wanted to make a quilt but didn't know where to start. I'm so glad I found Kelly at Craft Haven. I started with her 2 hour Uber basics sewing course, and she went through step by step in showing me everything about the sewing machine, things to be aware of, hand position, thread, and any other detail you would be hard pressed to learn on your own. I had used a sewing machine in another lifetime but would occasionally make blunders that I didn't know the reason for and under Kelly's tutelage I was able to understand what I had done wrong in the past. I think the best thing about working with Kelly is that she makes everything easy to understand and fun. She is methodical which streamlines the process and makes sewing seem way less intimidating. I also appreciated that Kelly made me feel like my lofty goals were achievable - I didn't leave feeling like it would be light years before I could have a finished project like I had imagined. Kelly also spent extra time with me discussing the project I want to start working on. It felt great to know she was interested in helping me with my idea and that I could keep coming back to work on it and learn. She is also very responsive to requests through email which I really liked. I highly recommend her services!"

"Exceeds Expectation. I took the Machine Basics class because I purchased a sewing machine but then, once it arrived, I was too intimidated to take it out of the box. Kelly completely banished my fears. I learned how all the parts work, how to keep the machine healthy, how to wind a bobbin, how to thread the machine, what all the buttons mean, and many other helpful details, and we even had time to make a tiny purse. Kelly is a consummate professional who clearly loves her work. She presented an enormous amount of information in a manner that was clear and easy to follow. While it's true, I might have figured everything out by reading the manual and watching youtube videos, it probably would have taken me 30 hours of frustration. In three hours, I learned enough to get started on basic sewing projects."

"I can sew! I've just completed the first 2 courses of "the works" package, and I can't believe how much I've learned already. After just the first class, with no prior experience, I went out and bought a machine--I felt that confident! Kelly is the ideal instructor: a total expert, patient, thorough, supportive, organized, concise, and clear. Her handouts are great and so helpful when you go home and apply what you learned. I hope to take many more classes to polish my skills, but honestly, with just the beginning courses, I feel very prepared to make so many of the things I've been wanting to make. These classes are such a great bargain for the quality of training, and the small class sizes make you feel like you're getting personal lessons. Can't say enough great things about Kelly and her enjoyable classes."

"I have never sewn, but always wanted to learn. I found Kelly's class here on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. Kelly's adorable space is inviting and friendly. I took the uber basics and learned how to thread a sewing machine, what all the mysterious parts do and why they do it, and even made a little drawstring practice pouch. Kelly has a way of explaining things in a fun and understandable way. I'll definitely go back to take basics deux! Thanks Kelly!"
